I am attempting to edit very large mp3's, (150 - 200 MB) and silence certain words. I do not want to delete the words because it is imperative to keep the mp3 the same length. Any suggestions on a program that will do this that is user friendly?
I'm sure there must be an easier way, but what I would do is convert them back into wav and open them in an audio editing program like protools. Then drag the volume down to zero over each word you want to take out. Then bounce it back to mp3. Problem is, your mp3's are massive, so you would need a serious computer to do that... lots of memory! I'll keep an eye on this thread, I'm very interested to see if there's an easier way to do this.
Give mp3DirectCut a try. You can select ranges and apply fadein, fadeout and gain (amplification). This should be all you need. Big advantage: You don't lose quality due to re-encoding.
