    Hi,

I'm a newbie, so I'm sorry if the question is naive. I have some MP3 files that I have downloaded that seem to have problems with their tags. Sometimes it is the whole album, sometimes just one track on an album.

If I right-click in explorer and look at the details tab, it is EMPTY! No length, not track number, no nothing! (Except file name, or course.)

If I add to the Windows Media Player library, everything comes up at unknown or empty. However, if I open the file in Mp3tag, everything looks like totally normal ID3v2.3 tags.

Any suggestions for how to solve this problem or repair the file?

    Thanks!

That's the chance you take when DL'ing..

Don't use WMP, really!..Try WinAmp or foobar2k etc..You can always use Mp3tag to re-write the tags as you want..

Firstly, I would warn you away from WMP or itunes. I would install the free versions both WinAmp and Media Monkey (MM). The are both top of the line but have very different interface and approach. See if there is still a problem. Make sure you only retrieve tune info from the internet manually.

WMP is pure garbage and both M$ and Apple are part of an anti piracy league. I am sure both audio managers keep a record of what you do and what you play and what was the origin of the audio. If you would like to see something foul, try this. Install peerblock that is a kind of firewall that only blocks cyber police and other evil organizations trying to get information from your computer or put things on your computer. Get it up and running then play a tune with WMP while you have the block window open. You will see your computer under attack as soon as you play a tune.

If you see the same tag problems with good software. Edit the tags from Mp3tag or MM. There may be some bad characters in the files.
