Hi Could anyone recommend a good mp3 player that will play gapless, that is to say play a mixed cd without inserting pauses between the tracks. I've been looking to buy an mp3 player for some time now butit seems ones that play gapless are rare. Thanks for any help in advance.
mp3s themselves are not gapless, thus there is no gapless player for them. That is one major flaw with mp3s. Even in winamp there are "gapless" plugins, but they're still no good. Some other compressed formats are, like .ogg I beleive. that or you could just leave them as uncompressed .wav files (and sacrifice space)
Thanks for that djscoop, it's a real pain, you would think that the manufacureres would be able to overcome this problem wouldn't you?
it is a pain, especially for electronic music and live CDs that play continuously. I luckily have tons of storage, so for my CDs that need to be gapless, I just leave in wav format. it is suprising that software programmers haven't yet developed a good plugin that can truely make a seemless transition between mp3 tracks. hopefully someday...
interesting, this may seem a daft thing to say but I'm new to all of this. But am I right in saying that not all mp3 players support wav files, but if I was to buy one that did then I could play my mix cds in wav format with no gaps??? Why does having the music files in wav format make a difference???
most mp3 players should be able to play wav files, just be sure to check the specs before you buy. wav files are gapless because they are uncompressed and the audio data goes literally to the end of the file, where as mp3s are music data within a compressed file, with information like tag IDs at the end of the track. thats the best guess I have, there might be a more scientific reason why mp3s have gaps at the end, I've never investigated it that much.
