This is completely new to me. I converted using nero recode to mp4 (h.264) today for first time instead of converting to DivX.

I love the way the picture looks, but I can't get nero to not encode the audio. I want to keep the AC3 format. How do I do that? and what other h.264 encoding programs are out there? I tried every program I have to remux the original AC3 in the mp4 file, but nothing I have will open it (Vdubmod / VideoReDo Plus).

    *edit*
Another question. Nero recode let me select 5.1, but when played using TosLink connection (optical), I can't hear anything? It plays on my computer (which is only 2 channel) but not thru my stereo (which is Dolby 5.1). Media info says the audio is AAC LC-SBR? How do I get 5.1 out of this?

I am confused...lol....(it's easy for me get that way)

MOD: Could you move this thread to the "Nero discussion" forum please. Thanks.

Just in case someone else has this issue: This is what I found out:

Dolby decoders on my stereo will not decode the AAC LC-SBR audio. To get the AC3 this is the best way. Encode to H.264 using nero recode (movie only, no sound), then use DGindex to demux the ac3 from the orginal movie. Then take the mp4(movie only) and the .ac3 file and mux them together in a .mkv file using mkv tools. I was told to use YAMB to get the raw video from the mp4 file, but that wasn't needed. The mkv tools software was able to handle the mp4 on its own.
