Hi all, Recently I've been converting my dvd collection via Handbrake to mp4 files. I've got about 300 of them and I've noticed that with time (the last 4 months) many of them have seemed to become corrupt (VLC doesn't recognize as movie files, won't open). Maybe it's a header issue, I'm not sure. I've had the video files on an external drive for a while, transferred to an internal but this corruption persists. Does anyone know of any software that automatically fixes corrupt mp4 headers, or maybe have any insight on why this corruption is happening? Maybe how to prevent it? I'd be happy to provide any further information on my system or set up if you think it relevant. Thanks!
If the files are really corrupted, its indicative of some kind of system problem, possibly related to your external drive or even bad RAM. You can certainly use a HEX viewer to look at the header; compare a good file file to a broken one. If you don't have a Hex viewer installed, you can use virtualdub/tools and you'll find one in there.
