I am trying to get my Windows Media Player 11 to play MP4 files. I am running Windows Vista Basic Home x64. I have the CCCP (codec pack) that includes Haali and FFDShow, and it all works fine for everything except for MP4 files inside of WMP11. I can play MP4 files in both Media Player Classic and VCL. Using GSpot I got this information on my file: Image I also know that I cannot see MP4 files inside of the MediaLibrary of WMP11. When I attempt to run the file in WMP11, it says that it has encounted a problem. The Web Help page is here: Web Help Haali and FFDShow do not appear in the taskbar when trying to play this in WMP11. If anyone could help me with getting this to work, it would be great. (Pretty much I just need WMP11 to let me add the file into its MediaLibrary so that I can view it from my XBox 360, but I don't think I can add it until I can get the player able to play the file.) (The file that I am using is an MKV file repacked into MP4 format, but I have also tried other MP4 sample files online to make sure that they got the same errors.)
Make sure the support codecs in FFDShow are not deactivated for MP4: set them to libavcodec for "Generic MPEG4" and "Other MPEG4", maybe that is your issue:
I wonder if the codecs that you have are compatible with Windows Vista(some versions of FFDshow will actually crash Vista). There is a codec pack specifically designed for Vista: http://www.softpedia.com/progChangelog/A...elog-55586.html
I cannot check that link because it was resized and thus became unusable. I found ffdshow_rev1724_20071225_clsid and installed that, but nothing runs yet (no tray icons) when I try to run the MP4 in WMP11. I just gets that error right away.
I downloaded Haali Media Splitter 29/12/2007 and that is what does it. I guess the thing about the programs not showing in the tray was the telling point. Thanks a lot, you got me into the right track!
