I record TV shows with my ATI AIW and it saves it as and mpeg-2 file with a .mpg extension. I want to convert this to AVI to save space, and have been looking all over the place for programs to do so, and have downloaded DVD2AVI because I read you can convert the mpg to AVI. That program will not let me convert for some reason. It either saves a 0kb AVI file or crashes on me. Does anyone know of anything else that will help me, that is somewhat easy to use?

DVD2AVI kind of evolved into DGIndex some time ago. It is more uptodate and feature packed. But still most people use it to create D2V files not save out avi's.

You might want to try something like AutoGK, although I am not sure it can handle MPEG2 without an IFO.

Thanks, I downloaded Autogk and found a nice tutorial to use. The AVI came out looking beautiful and about 600 megs lighter, but now I don't have any sound on it. I encoded it in Divx 5.2 and the tutorial said that since I was converting to less than 1 cds worth that Autogk automatically be converted to ABR mp3. Am I missing a codec, or is everything just not going my way?

Windows comes with a mp3 decoder and AutoGK I would imagine uses a commandline encoder (BeSweet?) for mp3 encoding.

I have no idea what that means.
