mpeg-2 to mpeg-1 without getting a crapy low size file

    hi
    i try to burn a vcd but my mpg file is never
    compliant
    well reading some of the messages here
    i now c that my file mpeg 2 wont work
    so i tried to change it to mpeg1 burned it but i got 370mb mpg1 file out of my 750mb mpg2 file (wich displayed crapy on my TV)
    how can i change it to mpeg-1
    without getting a crapy low sized file?

    VideoCD has certain standards (74min of video to 74min CD -> appx. 10MB/1min) that _can't_ be changed.

    Try burning your MPEG-2 in SVCD format (instructions are on our article page) and see if your player supports SVCD. This way to preserve the exact quality.

    But if your player _doesn't_ support SVCD, but only VCD, you're out of luck.

    guess what?(;
    it isnt even SVCD compliant
    what the hack is this file?
    video stream mpeg-2 video 480x480 29.97 fps 2500kbps
    audio stream mpeg-1 audio layer-2 44100Hz 192kbps
    how can i turn it to something that works?
    btw - the file play time is only 44min
    so there isnt any problem with disc space

    Try to burn VCD using your 700 mb MPEG-2 file and Nero 5.5.x switching OFF compatibility mode. In my case it plays.

    in other words it didnt work
    my dvd player didnt play the movie

    Try to use next time RW media. This will allow you feel free to spoil the media. Once again - in my case it works, in yours? I have tested it with Pioneer DVD 525 - it plays all - VCD, SVCD and mpeg-2 from SVCD incorporated into VCD disc format (exactly wgat I have recommended to you. It's up to you and the manufacturer of your DVD player.

    The values sound like SVCD stats (look at our glossary for SVCD http://www.afterdawn.com/glossary/), so I assume it somehow has incorrect stream structure. Try this trick, it works sometimes:

    -open TMPGEnc, choose MPEG Tools and select Demux and demux the file into m2v and AC3 (or whatever audio it has) files
    -after done this, select multiplex and join the two separate files backtogether with another filename (movie2.mpeg or whatever)

    Go to Nero, select SVCD template (turn the frigging test compliance back on :) and drag/drop the file to the layout and see what happens. And if something happens, tell me what it says, normally Nero can tell you what's wrong with the file.

    first of all u were right, it was curropted file and i used TMPGE to split it up and put it back togethe, then went to nero which accepted the file and burnt me a svcd disc however, my dvd player just sucks, it doesnt support svcd, so it just cost me another disc :)
    i have to encode it to vcd
    i tried to use TMPGE
    i loaded the SVCD file as an input, select VideoCD template format pal and encode it. the result was a green screen as display. and the audio was fine. what am i doing wrong? is that the way to change svcd to vcd?

    Hm, click the link again?-) Works nicely for me, the stupid forum script just added a bracket ) after the URL :)

    And TMPGEnc _should_ be able to load the file. Hm. Try this trick:

    Open the MPEG-2 file (that you fixed earlier) with DVD2AVI and save DVD2AVI project. Open the project file (d2v) with TMPGEnc and try to encode that to VCD.

    note to self : dont waste time on silly 80's
    comedy next time all the work just isnt worth it
