Hi, My "friend" recently "backed up" a few of my dvds.. Anyways, they are all Xvid's, and I am playing them through my Xbox 360. I have one dvd back up, and the audio is "Audio: Dolby AC3 48000Hz 6ch 448Kbps [Stream 01]", while the other ones are "Audio: MPEG Audio Layer 3 44100Hz stereo 112Kbps [Stream 01]". The Dolby AC3 has surround sound, etc. However the MPEG Audio Layer 3 just comes out on my front speakers. Is there anyway to make the MPEG sound like the Dolby AC3? Or is the only way this can be done is to keep the Dolby AC3 when you are backing up dvds? (AC3 is the default audio from dvds, correct?) The Dolby AC3 sounds so much better Sorry for the noob questions
The easiest thing to do is keep the AC3 audio when backing up your DVDs. MP3 audio is essentially stereo audio with only channels (referred to a 2.1) while AC3 produces 5 channels (referred to as 5.1). If you are playing the files through your computer, then try playing them through VLC media player and tweak the Equalizer and it will assist in making it sound a little better. If you are encoding your XVIDs to DVD, use a program that supports AC3 encoding. I use Film Machine paired with Sonic Foundry and it will auto encode MP3 based video files to AC3, or I'll use Minnentonka DTS encoder for DTS audio.
Well, I have the xvid files on my computer. I am playing them through my Xbox 360 on my HD tv, with 5.1 surround sound. However most of the xvids have MP3 audio. By somehow converting the MP3 audio to AC3 - would it still sound as good as a dvd ripped keeping AC3 audio?
