Hello, I searched the forums but could not find anything so I decided to see if someone would have an answer to my question. I have for many months now been capturing video from digital TV broadcasts and have always had trouble cutting out the video that I want. I record mostly music videos. So I would capture, say 2h of video, and would then select the videos that I wanted to keep. The software that I'm currently using is TPMpeg Enc and it's painfully slow, especially when I want to extract the last couple of videos from my 2h recording. I looked at FlaskMPEG, but I'm not even sure how to use it, and even less sure if that's the tool I want to use. I need something like VirtualDubs' "Direct Stream Copy". I am of course looking for something freeware, and also somthing with a GUI ( not command line based. I would really appreciate any help, I truly need it. Regards, steve7777
You are going to have a Hard Time finding a Freeware Mpeg-2 editor that will edit on a Frame accurate Basis...Generally Mpeg Files have to be Edited on an I Frame which means you can only edit on every 12th to 18th frame (If useing a 12 to 18 frame GOP).... There are a Couple Freeware Editors that will Let you do I frame Editing of Mpeg-2 files like "Chopper XP" and "Mpeg2Cut" but I have had Problems with these Programs because they do not Properly Fix the PTS time Codes in the Edited File but they are worth a Try.... The Best Mpeg-2 editors are "Womble Mpeg2VCR" which is a Pretty Basic Cut and Paste Editor and then there is "Womble Mpeg Video Wizard 2005" which is a Full featured Timeline Editor...These editors are very Fast and can add effects and Transitions and can edit on a Frame Accurate Basis..... If you do a Google Search you will find the Programs Mentioned, If not let me Know and I"ll get some Links for you...... Cheers
Cuttermaran. Demux your captures to elementary streams (tmpgenc, mpeg tools, simple demux). Load the m2v into cuttermaran. It will automatically load the audio. Find the start of the part you want to KEEP, and click "Mark In". Find the end of the part you want to KEEP, and click "Mark Out". Click, "Add Range to Cut List". Skip ahead to the next part you want to keep. Repeat, until you have all the parts you WANT in the cut list. Click "Cut Video/Audio". It will prompt you for a location to save the file, and you can have cuttermaran remux it into an mpg if you choose. If you want to cut separate files, just select the start and end, add to cut list, and click "Cut video/audio". Once done, remove that bit from the cut list, select the next portion, and repeat. It's free. If you need a free demuxer, try PVAStrumento, which will automatically correct audio sync during demuxing, if there are any corrupt video or audio frames.
