Can anyone tell me what software will be required and how it should be used to change the resolution of an mpeg file to one that will be accepted be Tmpgenc Dvd Author.

    Thanks in advance.

you could encode it with tmpgenc and use the wizard in dvd mode

resolution should be 720x480 NTCS or 720x576 PAL for a dvd if you dont use wizard

will lose quality though. dont know of any programs that just change res

Actually 325x288 and 352x240 are also fully compliant with dvd standard :) so maybe encoding to a lower resolution might give a better result if the files are 16:9!

Would it be a better option picture quality wise to make mpeg2 svcd compliant, and if so can a two or three part movie be joined back into one and burned onto a Dvd?

The resolution of SVCD (480x480/576) is not compliant with DVD standards!!

No, I understand that. But if my stand alone reads svcd format on a cdr does it not follow that it would read the same information from dvdr or does the media type determine the file format that the player reads?

I dont think you can put SVCD format on a dvd-r, the question is asked all the time though!
