FYI--- It was suggested here that I download STINYS meg2 codec pack from THIS site version 1.2 in order to allow WINDOWS MEDIA PLAYER 9 to play dvds. I tried it on my spare tower and it did NOT work. I uninstalled it and went back to a codec pack from COLE2K.net version 7.9 standard or advanced. That did and does work instantly. I do not want to sound like an advertisement but I have been looking for months and this is the only pack I have found that works. Other packs that were designed to solve this issue did not. I found this pack quite by accident while downloading a third party player called GOM. The player auto opens a link to COLE to download the same codec that IT needs. WMP9 uses the same codec. Hope this helps others.
After months of searching I came across a web site called CO:E2K.net. Their codec pack, 7.9 standard or advanced is the ONLY pack that actually works in WINDOWS MEDIA PLAYER 9 series. Insert the disc, go to NOW PLAYING on the left. If it does not open the disc, go to NOW PLAYING at thr top, open the list, and select the title. The disc will open quickly. Issue solved. Feel free to pass this along. The codec(s) are not identified by name.
If you right click the name on the right (in WMP) and click "properties", you should find the codec name.
