Hi all. I recently captured my analogue camcorder 8mm onto my pc using pinnacle capture card and software. Then i encoded it as a 4GB mpeg2 file and burned it to a dvd. When i played it on my dvd player it just stopped after about 1GB of the file had played adn went back to the file list. Has anybody ever experienced this before and is there a better way of doing this please?
hi mpeg2 at 4gig is quite big, but it is one file! how come you have 2? edit reading between the lines here you made vob/bup/ifo files yes? and it only plays first vob of 1 gig? sounds like the ifo navigation file is currupt? what apps were used for all?
rotary, thanks for the input. The only file i burned onto the dvd was the mpeg2 file, of which i only have one, not two. I didn't realise I needed other navigation files. My tv dvd player accepts mpeg2 format so I thought there would be no problem reading this file. Do i need the vob/bup/ifo files? excuse my novice knowledge. I used pinnacle pctv to capture the analogue svideo and nero to burn the dvd.
hi ok, not sure where to start here so i will rant on and you see if any thing fits to your needs... if your dvd standalone player can use mpeg as is then kool! and i dont know why it wont just play it? but i will hazrad a gues here, it could be the mpeg isnt mpeg2 (dvd compliant?) or it may need to go into a SVCD mpeg senario which has its own file structure like a dvd has! then alot of modern standalones will play mpeg aswell as dvdr etc... off hand i dont know any apps that will take mpeg and make it into SVCD (cdr by the way not dvdr!) which could be 2 or 3 cdr's for svcd. but i know alot of apps and how to get to dvdr if you want to go this route? for dvdr load the mpeg to divxtodvd a free app that will output dvd structure files of bup/ifo/vob extension files, these files you can burn in say nero useing tab button ADD-VIDEO and drag or place all the vob/ifo/bup inside the folder nero makes called VIDEO_TS and burn! now if the size of the output files are smaller than 4.36gig (dvdr) than ll well and good just burn as mentioned in nero, but over this 4.36 size you need to load to dvd shrink which is another free app to compress it to 4.36gig then burn with nero after... all depends which route you want? SVCD (cdrs) or dvd (dvdr)? let me know which and what you cant follow here and we can go from there thx...
Ok rotary, I think I'll give the divxtodvd app a try. As far as I can tell the file is an mpeg2 format, at least there's an info file created by the encoding application (pinnacle pctv) which lists it as mpeg2 format. I never mentioned before that the original 8mm tapes I captured were NTSC, but the camcorder and capture card I used for the capture were PAL. Not sure if this makes any difference as long as the video is captured. After I use the divxto dvd app do I burn all the files to a dvd using nero, or only certain ones? Thanks again for the advice.
