I have iTunes (iPod) and I realized that it uses the MPEG 3 Layer 3 Audio format and I was wondering whether I could convert these music files into MP3. Can I do this by using iTunes or using another freeware program? Thanks for all your advise!
iTunes distributes [bold]MPEG-4 part 14[/bold] (Mp4/MPEG-4 AAC) files. They are either DRM copy protected (.m4p) or unprotected (.m4a). It is possible to convert the unprotected files to whatever format you want but the protected files, the files that you buy from iTunes, can not be converted. The only ways of get around this limitation is by recording via some analog method or burnning the files to a CD (audio-CD) then ripping the CD tracks to whatever format you want. F.Y.I. Mp3 is short hand for "MPEG-1 Audio Layer 3." ...the MPEG 3 Layer 3 Audio format... doesn't exist. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mp3 Ced
