   I would like to take 5 seconds of video and decompose it into individual frames. Is there a freeware program that can do this job?

   Use VirtualDub.
   Open or drag the AVI file onto the window.
   For mpeg or VOB, search for the 'mpeg2 plugin for VirtualDub'
