Hi, I'm new here and would appreciate some help in the following problem: I converted a trip on a Hi8 video to mpg using moviestar and the dazzle video creator. initially it was perfect and I played it back several times, few weeks later when I tried to paly it back from my HDD I got the first few seconds OK then the frame froze and I could see another frame in the background like another layer palying the rest of the video along with the audio. how can I get rid of the frozen frame and repair the file? thanks.
You may try use another media player to see if things are better. If you suspect that the mpeg is corrupted, then you can try repair the errors with e.g. VCD Gear (free program): http://www.vcdgear.com/ Set 'Extraction/conversion' to 'mpeg -> mpeg', and check 'fix mpeg errors'. But be sure to back up your original mpeg first. Good luck!
Thanks,I tried as you suggested and used several players including power DVD, win DVD, and WMP but still the same. I even converted to avi and still the same. so I will try to repair the file as it appears to be corrupted, I'll use VCDGear and let you know the result.
Hello again, tried VCDGear and did two things: one I used the repair MPG to MPG and two I used the VCD tool and converted to bin file then played both, unfortunately the result is still the same. After few seconds of normal display I get a frozen frame and another frame behind it slightly apart and I can see a strip of normal display continuing along with audio. any new ideas please?
Can you copy the mpeg and play it on another pc? I suspect that something is wrong with your pc, not the mpeg.
Maybe you could cut out the first seconds of the video ,if they're not to important ?! If nothing will work eventually ,wouldn't it be possible for you to re-record the trip video ?
Thank you for the advice, two things here: I tried to do as you suggested using Ulead video studio and moviestar but the same frame appears in the time line mode from the moment it freezes till the end. Second it would be logical to re-record the clip and not go thru this hassle, except that I erased the original tape ;((
