1- I haven't played modded Xbox in a few weeks. I haven't gone online to be told I'm banned yet but can my console ID already be banned at MSFT's database?

2- Do you have to update the xbox (recently) for MSFT to know you have a modded xbox?

3- If I don't go online until this supposed "ban wave" is over, am I safe from the ban?

sorry, i'm a noob at xbox (just purchased a few weeks ago) so I've no clue what's going on.

Well, this was interesting to read. Pooky - you are contradicting yourself. You said, "I think the people that's scared to check might as well bite the bullet. If you have a modded console & used it in the past few weeks/months then you're pretty much done." People should not bite the bullet yet. There's about a 95% chance of you getting banned when you sign in after this whole ban wave is over if you've played a modded console on live. There's a 99.9% chance of getting banned if you sign on right now. If you don't know if you've been flagged then don't get online. If you know you've been flagged then DON'T GET ONLINE!! (leave the console as an offline console) Either way, everyone should stay off. Yes, you are right. Most of us will probably be banned or at least flagged to be banned when this is all over. I am probably flagged but I will keep the modded console offline forever now and use it for single player games that I don't wanna buy. It seems that the two of you agree on this but you might have misspoken when you told people to just bite the bullet. Just thought I will clarify everything.

Every time I put in a new game, backup or not, it makes me perform an update in order to play it. I thought this was a common thing. Am I the only one who needs to do this? Same thing when playing .avi's from my PC.

This guy does have the right idea. In the end all you should remember in this situation is it is to be better safe than sorry

Sorry for the double post guys but I was just so eager to respond to a question that been asked and answered on every one of the 57 pages of this thread. YES, if your modded console is not banned yet it will be just like it's always been. You can put your hdd on it and carry saved games and achievements between it and your unmodded xbox. If you never sign it back into live it will not officially get banned, even though it might be flagged to be banned. Even if it was banned, your hdd from it would not get your unmodded console banned.

If you're new to the thread please read at least a few pages of it before asking a question to see if your question has already been asked. I know it's 57 pages long but this question is in a there a lot.

I've never heard of that before. Does it do it even when you play the same game several days in a row?

Contradicting myself? What you just stated is what I pretty much said/meant. If you're already flagged on a particular console you're gonna be banned no matter what sooner or later. If you avoid getting on Live just to keep from getting banned then you're delaying the ban. Right?

You can check to see if you're banned anyhow without going online. The only way you can assure of not getting banned right now is to have a legit console or have a modded one not connected/signed into to Live. Probably not even turned the thing on to play anything too. When the new FW is released you can update the FW & therefore have a freshly working modded console without any suspicious activity. I don't even know if this is a safe way with a fresh console because we don't know how the new FW will work. Thanks!

It seems unlikely that a new FW would un-ban your console. If that were the case you should be able to spoof a new drive into your system and get unbanned. I haven't heard c4eva say that so I wouldn't take it too seriously just yet. That would be great though.

As to the other method listed in that post. That method will only work if you haven't played any wave 4 games. As soon as you play a wave 4 game your system gets an update that fixes the crack that was being used for jtag. Without jtag this work around won't work unless you got your key off your system before the update. Good idea though. I'm pretty sure that M$ thought of this work around, as it's fairly obvious, when they decided to initiate this ban wave and did what they could to fix that crack in advance. Most of us will not be able to us this.

That's normal. Most games have their own updates that the developers implement or xbox live implements to fix glitches in the game. You should get an update almost every time you play a new game. Hell, I played MW2 the first day it was out and it already had an update. You're ok.

Everything has a price. This is the price you pay for modding. Die-hard modders don't mind staying offline and waiting it out for a month or two for the ban to end. (But then you don't get the updates to enable you to play the newest wave games, eg. Left 4 Dead 2 which I hear is a Wave 5 game.) Those who are after the fun the XBox and XBL provide would not last a couple of days (like my son). Depends on which camp you are in. What I'm saying is that if you are only into the entertainment you might as well go legit. At the end of the day it's really not that much more expensive than modding. It's only that you pay more for more entertainment and less frustrations.

Well, someone correct me if I'm wrong here, you should be able to put your hdd on an unmodded xbox, connect to live, put the new game in, get the update, then be good to go. I'm not sure if the update loads to the xbox itself or to your profile. I haven't had to do that before. At least it's an idea.

Nevermind, I just thought about that and realized the update is to the system itself...not the profile. I used the activate.iso disc to play MW2. That bypassed the wave 4 problem for me. The other updates should just be for online use only, which, haha...you don't really need to worry about anymore. Sorry, it's in poor humor to laugh at our fallen comrades.

I have never played on live.

I connected to live only one time to download an update. No disc was in the DVD drive.

Will I get banned if I connect to live to download new updates?
