I tried reading old threads, and I got lazy. SO MUCH INFORMATION
I bought this Sony system last year and I have never recorded anything:( I am desparate to copy some of my kid's vhs tapes to dvd. I can't even get a picture. I used the s video cable from vcr to s video port on back of cpu. I tried the yellow/red/white on the front of cpu -- nothing but grey yuck. I tried my kid's tv/vcr combo unit using the two colored cables (there were only two ports on his tv) and still just grey snowy.
I use my remote to go to Media Center and then I chose LiveTV. That's when I see the grey screen.
Just for hopes, I checked the recorded TV space, but there was nothing there.
    Any help is very appreciated.
    Thanks, idosteno

It's a lot of info. cause there are a lot of ways to do this video stuff.
First- what is this sony system you have?
Second- are the ports you'er connecting to input or output?
Third- is your system capable of anolog to digital conversion? That's basically what you'd have to do to start the process of vhs to dvd.
