I have say 30 AVIs which I need to convert so I can play them on a DVD player all the Avis are roughly 350mb in length and divx encoded and are roughly 40 min long - how many DVDs can I expect to use for this. I thought that I could encode the divx to vob then use DVD shrink or some other software to reduce the size of the VOB. As far as I know though DVD shrink only works with iso images or inf files or actual dvds. Is there a similar program that you can use to compress VOBs in the same way. I have Alcohol 120 for creating iso images and have Divx Converter and the DIvx codec as well as DVD shrink - I have NERO (full package) and Sonic. Seem to be hitting brick wall as when I try and encode from divx to dvd with sonic - its shit quality and can only fit 1 avi on 1 dvd (which would imply i would need 30dvds for the whole bunch) I am trying to keep the original quality - its the series lost and all seem to be very good quality. I tried a trial version of DVD santa which seemed to do a good job quality wise but couldnt shrink it down - plus had a green bar at the bottom of the screen (could be cause it was a trial version mind you but not entirely sure cant see any mention of it on any threads) I would really appreciate someone gettin back, I dont mind paying for a program if I am sure its gonna work and do what I need it to do - TMPENG seems to encode one file at a time to dvd, i need compression and quality (hard combination i know) but have feeling it can be done
what i use to convert avi/divx files to dvd format vobs is VSO DivxToDVD, then i use TMPGEnc DVD Author 1.6 to create a dvd from all the files that i've converted (it also accepts mpeg files). If after the creation has completed and the size exceeds the dvd size your looking for (standard/DL) then you can use DVD Shrink.
