I have this 10 part documentary all in .mpg form and I would like to put them on a dvd or two. right now I have the first 9 mpg's converting in DiVXtoDVD (3 hours to go). I plan on putting these into a DVD authoring program to create a menu to select whatever episode I want. I assume the DVD authoring program will rename the files accordingly, seeing as the converter is giving them all the same name (VTS_01_1.VOB). Can anyone confirm that and possibly suggest a nice and easy authoring program that would allow me to put my own custom background in? Thanks in advance.

Edit: i think i have dvd authoring confused. when i say dvd authoring i am thinking of a program that i put the vob files into and ccreate menus etc. am i wrong?

This is definitely an authoring issue. I can't speak for all authoring programs, but generally what should happen is that completely new files should be created by extracting the audio and video from the existing VOBs. The only authoring programs I've used extensively that you can put in menus with are DVD-Lab and DVD-Lab Pro. Some people find them quite easy to use (like me) and others find the interface difficult to understand. You can download a trial version to see what you think. It will definitely allow you to import your VOBs and will create new ones from them. You also may want to look into GUI for dvdauthor (free) and TMPGEnc DVD Author (30 day trial available) to see if they'll do what you want. You can find links for all of these programs in the FAQ at the top of the forum.
