i would like to see the forum set up to see how meny time a thread is viewed ..this would tell all the mods and helpers how effected the thread was..

and one more thing set up just a general tech news board..so as the tect news can be posted..so all can read, instead of posting all over the site..

It would be handy to see how many times a thread is viewed. Good thinking ireland.

The "thread has been viewed N times" has few problems:

-first of all, launching it now would probably show zeroes to all old threads forever, making it quite biased to determine how popular threads have been

-secondly, what counts as a view?

*Is it two views of a thread if person X loads the thread's first page and for whatever reason, refreshes it 10 seconds later?

*If you load the thread's first page (assuming there are hundreds of msgs there), is that a view? Is it another view when you load thread's second page? Or when you come back to the first page, does that count a new view again?

*if we assume that only reading the first page of a thread counts towards the "views", how about people coming to 44th page of the thread via Google or via our own search engine or via some 3rd party links?

-third, it would add yet another query or two to the database server for each page load, which is something I'm reluctant to do unless people can well argue why the feature is needed :)

And as far as the news thingy goes, we have something nifty coming up for you in next couple of weeks ;-)
