Can depend on a couple things: who manufactured them - they both use some poor quality manufacturers - maybe the TDK was made by a better manufacturer than HP. Run the discs thru nero tool kit - info tool and see who the manufacturers are. Is your firware up to date on your burner? This helps your drive with the read and write speeds of media.
