proble so any help would be greatly appreciated. I have a Gateway FX-510 desktop that’s not working. Last week I was gaming and the display suddenly shut off, so I restarted my computer and it seemed okay, but the next day it happened again followed by a series of beeps. So, I restarted my computer thinking that some weird anomaly crashed my computer. However, when I restarted the computer this time, the monitor didn’t display anything at all. So I opened up the case thinking that my video card burnt out, and swapped out the defective part for a new Nvidia GTX 460 , but it still didn’t show anything on the monitor when I booted up the PC. I then called up a local repair center and they told me that either my monitor burnt out, or the defective video card might have burnt out something on the motherboard and that’s why it’s not displaying anything on the monitor. I’m going to swap out the monitor with one that I know works, however, if it is the motherboard I’m not sure what I can use to replace it, or for that matter, which one I should buy (that’s where I need your help). If it is the motherboard, which should I purchase? I have a budget of roughly 100-150 USD, so can anyone recommend anything? Please keep in mind that I’m disabled and am currently living on disability till I get a job. Thanks in advance. This also includes Memory (since I have DDR2 533 vs DDR3, but I would like to upgrade to either 667 or 800 later on). I also noticed that Tom’s Hardware listed something like the Pentium II E6800 is the best LGA 775 CPU for gamming, is this true (Can’t paste the link cause accidentally quit the browser while I was typing this up)? What would be the “best” LGA 775 CPU for gamming? Lastly can someone tell me what the northbridge and southbridge do, cause I’ve tried to look for motherboards on Newegg, and they have so many that I’m confused as this point?
Gateway FX-510 .. another lump of junk from the "bad caps" stable. I think the thing has onboard graphics.. (gateway are real junk.. substandard qc fail msi usually) but check the bios first.. if that displays then theres obviously nothing wrong with the display or gfx or mobo.. what beeps is it making?.. obviously the repair place will want to force you to buy the most expensive things they have.. a mobo that will require a full set of different ram and everything..
You would figure that a moderator of a site that is as old as this one would not only show his/her kindness towards others, but also keep in mind that people make mistakes. I'm happy that my "blindness" hasn't caused you to loose sleep, unfortunately it will not help you realize how rude/assanine you really as
You posted in the sites feed back & suggestions which has nothing to do with a comp issue so would come under the heading of a PC in the forum can't get more blind than that, only advice i'll give you when in a forum never ever take anything personally or to heart capeche.
Again, as I've stated earlier, it's rudeness that I'm responding to, nothing more, nothing less. I realize that computer science people have about as much tact as a bull in a rodea/china closet/cabinet, but there is a thing called civility, which i'm sure both of you were taught and for some reason seem to ignore.
if you had used your eyes & brain like you are supposed to then you would not have posted in the wrong forum & this would not have happened. person to blame is you as everybody who reads this thread will see.
I don't see why it's so important to you that I'm wrong and you are right, obviously I posted it in the wrong place, but that's not what I was stating, I'm stating how rude and stubborn you are and how you seen to ridicule others for a stupid mistake like the one I made. You know exactly how you are acting rude and pretend that you know nothing about it. Has it ever occured to you that perhaps I am legally blind and didn't place the querry in the right place for that reason? Or perhaps it's due to my haste? In either case I admit I did post to the wrong place, but that has nothingn to do with the way in which you ignore how you treat people and how you have ridiculed others for making such a stupid mistake. I might be blind, but at least I'm not dense.
Oh and by the way, I know how to use my brain, I have a MA and I will forward this thread to another moderator and file a complaint against your rude and insulant behavior.
go right ahead as i only answer to the site admin. a MA doesn't mean anything to me if you don't know how to use it. were you born blind or did it happen later in life as i was born with cerebal palsey over 51 yrs ago & i don't harp about my disability like you just did so deal with it.
I'm a little confused here. Were you ever taught any manners? Were you always this rude? I'm not harping at my disability, i just mentioned a fact, you, on the other hand are treating me like crap. I am not using my blindness in any way, nor am I crying about it so quit acting like a retard and crucifying me for a stupid mistake And for you information I know how to use my MA but I'm sure that it means nothing to you since you are a sci major, or maybe not, maybe you're just another hack who "taught myself"
im blind but i dont go about it.arguing on a forum wont get you anywhere btw the series of beeps is probably telling you its a bios problem.this should give you a hint
I figured it out, thanks xbox. It was actually my vid card must've shorted out because when I opened it up the first time, the center of the fan was black and it smelled funny, I brought it to a friend of mine and she said that it looked as thought the plastic melted around the pin that attached the fan to the board, so I swapped out the card for a GTX 460 and it seems to work fine now. As for stating my disability, it was not my intention to draw that into the arguement at all, I was simply talking about the rudeness of others online. BTW I have a question about some of the BIOS settings on my Gateway. I have an E6600 and I'm contemplating moving it to a Q9550 or 9650 depending on the price, so let me know if you think it's worth it. I don't do much just use different applications at the same time and find myself bogged down sometimes, not sure if that's due to the CPU's limitation or the RAM size (2gb DDR2-667 5-5-5-15 )
