You are burning an 8X DVD+R DL disc that is produced by an inverse stack method at 1X, too slow a speed to work properly. Try 4X. If that doesn't work, your drive may not be able to record inverse stack discs; and you will have to switch to photo-polymer discs. Verbatim is still using the 2P process, so try those DL discs to see if you get better results.

Try Verbatim DVD+R DL. Your drive is having problems on the first layer that, to the drive, is "upside down" because the disc is an inverse stack DL disc. Verbatim, I believe, is still using the 2P process for all of its DL discs. If the drive can't write to Verbatim DL discs, it may be time for a new DL drive.
