It sounds like that the Power connector or IDE cable isnt plugged in correctly into the Drive.

Does the comptuer still have warranty ?
If it does, take it back to where you go it from, and they can check it, without voiding the warranty.

My knowledge with computers is decent, not expert but for sure not a noob. I know the power cables are connected correctly. When i boot up my computer the drive opens, and besides my burner on the slave works fine.

I think its something to do with the DMA or something...anyone else that can help?

Thanks for your help though, i appreciated your help!

Does the POST (power on self test) detect the Drive?

If its not showing there, its something to do with the drive or the cables.

If it does show then and windows isnt detecting is correctly, try uninstalling and reinstalling it.

Right Click on My Comptuer -> Properties -> Deivce -> Device Manager.

Now go down to CD/DVD Drive, click the plus next to that group. Right click on the Drive and click 'Uninstall'

Do this to the IDE Channel aswell.

Lightz, Have you installed a game with Starforce 3 copyprotection, such as Gangland, TOCA Racing Driver 2, etc.? If you have, then it could be the buggy SF3, which could be the reason for missing DVD-RW -drives. I had exactly the same symptoms due to the SF3. Here's a quick way to check if the copyprotection is installed to your PC:

Go to Device Manager --> View dropdown --> Check "Show hidden devices" --> Expand "Non-Plug and Play Drivers". If you see 3 (could me more, could be less) devices referring Starforce 3 (sorry I can't remeber exact names, but they are easy to spot), then you should run a program called sfclean.exe to remove SF3 from your PC. The program can be found here: http://help.starforce.ru/Sfclean/sfclean.exe

Oh yes, Those games won't work anymore after SF3 uninstall.
