I have a Samsung DVD Writer DVD+R 18x18x and two days ago I was burning some movies for my neighbor and I had just finished encoding the avi with ConvertxToDVD and when it started, the burner itself made a noise like the DVD was being scratched in the drive then Convertx said disc drive is dirty so i then cleaned it tried again and the same thing happened with dvd shrink then hd dvd fab and img burn and decrypter so its not a software thing , i mean obviously because of the noise it makes. The other thing is it burns cd's just fine but when i start a burn on a dvd it makes that noise and stops but the computer itself says the burn is still going and when its done it says "successful" and heres the thing that really gets me, the disc works in my computer but not in any dvd player. can anyone tell me whats going on. I appreciate any help with this problem.
Sounds like junk media is a possibility. What media are you using. Normally, I would suggest Verbatim, but they seem to be going downhill, lately. Try some Taiyo Yuden media. It is still the best out there.
thanks for the response. Ive actually used three different types of dvdr's first was tdk next was hp then a sony and still did the same thing. cd's are no problem but dvds are not coming out. we are non smokers and keep it pretty clean around the computer area so Im baffled as to what the problem could be. thanks.
Well, it may be that the burner is dying or dead. There are two different lasers in the burner. One is for CD's, the other for DVD's. You could try cleaning it with compressed air or a laser cleaning CD.
I hope its not dying, as I just purchased it 4 months ago. I'll give it another shot with the laser cleaner, and if that doesn't work I guess the compressed air. Thanks for all your help by the way. I appreciate it. -Ben
