I have an HP a1540n with a lightscribe DVDR burner drive. I once had DVD43 installed for ripping/burning DVD movies. I have unistalled the software b/c the license ran out and it was useless. Now my drive will only recognize the burnt DVD's, and no longer will recognize regular copywrited DVD movies. How do I fix this problem?

Surely you mean commercial pressed disks.. your burned ones are still copyrighted.. duh..

Anyway. I guess what has happened is you have uninstalled the css recognition software along with nasty old dvd43 .. try installing a player like VLC

I downloaded VLC, still my drive only recognizes burnt/copied DVD's, not main title/store bought DVD's (the drive just hangs with activity light staying on indefinitely). Copies are recognized immediately and play perfectly. I also used CCleaner, and rebooted. What else can I do?

I would suggest trying HP's support & downloads page... Check if they have updated firmware (or even your original version if no updates) for your DVD burner...

or you could try a System Restore point if you have one set before you started experiencing the problem...

What want to try is to go into your device manager and disable your optical drive, restart your computer. Then go back into your device manager and enable your optical dive and see if that fixes your problem.
