I don't know what I did. Its been a while now that my DVD drive vanished. I can't see it in "My computer" anymore. My drive still has power(I can open it and everything), when I put a dvd inside I can hear it running.(but it doesn't do anything else) But yet nothing happens. How the heck do I fix this? Thanks alot!
I have the same problem. Bios detected the drive but no read/write and it's not in Mycomputer. My drive is an LiteOn DVD-R LH18A1P. It has power and the door opens and closes, just no detection from the OS.
i have this problem with my laptop running vista i was installing oblivion game of the year. disk one installed and then disk two never opened then ith stopped showing the drive in my computer it showed the drive in device manager. what can i do.
Actually, I'm having the same problem. I noticed that my CD/ DVD drives (2 of them) no longer displayed in My Computer. I mean they open when you click the buttons, but they are not present in Device Manager. Whwn I put CDs or DVDs in, they do not even start to run them. I am also stuck, and if anyone can help it would be greatly appreciated.
I have heard that one way to fix this is to clean the registry keys as they seem to be causing this problem. I am not as computer orientated as other people, so I am figuring out how to do this without messing up anything. My previous anti-virus program cleaned them, but my new one does not. If anyone has any info regarding these registry keys and whether cleaning them solved the problem, please share. I have heard that these two registry keys cause this problem: "Upperfilters" and "Lowerfilters" found under: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325 -11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318} -
my dvd drive also does the same opens and closes but i just cant find it and it does not run..... i have a laptop so i dont think i can open it up :S thnx alot
bios is the permanet memory of the computer that tells the cpu what to do till the operating system kicks in. is the drive seen by the computer before windows loads?
will showup. pressing f1, f2 or del gets you into the bios setup. read your computer guide or motherboard manual.
it does not tell me when i restart, all it says is ... acer then loads windows then the logon screen.
power off your laptop... turn it back on and before it gets to windows, press f2 or del... you will then be in a blue bios screen, go along to one of the tabs that explores hardware components, it will tell you what you have.. ie. floppy, cd-rom, hard drives etc... if your cd-rom is there, then its a problem with windows or something, if not then it may have come loose inside your casing...
