I have about 15 PS2 games and 20 DVDs that I would like to backup so I am deciding to cough up the money and start the process. Here is the hardware I plan on purchasing. Does anyone have any comments on this list?

    Pioneer DVR-106
    Verbatim DVD-R media
    RecordNowMax software

    Thanks!

    my two pennies

Get a Pioneer 105 instead if you plan to back up on dvd-r.

I read somewhere ( a review of the A06) that the firmware for the 106 is more stable...Opinion? Fact?

Anyhoo, Why pay for the +R/+RW if you don't intend to use it? +R/+RW media is slightly more expensive IMO.

Yeah, Record now max does seem to be the more stable burning app. Have not had a prob since I started using it over Nero.

Well you can get the Pioneer DVR-106 for only about $10 more than the 105. Has anyone used the 106 for burning games and/or dvds?

Yep that's the review I read.

If you're gonna get a drive you might as well go for it.

I don't think a lot of people here have the A06 yet as it just came out. So take the plunge and tell us how it is.

We'll be waitin' for the X8 speed drives...

    :)

Hmmmm I think I have to upgrade my PC first. I have a Compaq P3 700mhz with 128mb ram. Can I do ps2/dvd burning on this bad boy or should I upgrade first?

You may well get away with it.

    I know for a fact that 900Mhz & 256k SDRam is enough..

My brother is going to give me his computer so he can buy a newer model. It's a 2.4GHz Intel Celeron with 512mb DDRAM and a 120gb hard drive. Now my question is this:

I have the RecordNowMax sofware and I just ordered the Pioneer 106 burner. If I want to do a direct copy of a DVD or PS2 game do I need to have a DVD drive or will a CD-RW drive work?

You will need a DVD-Rom drive to copy on-the-fly [as it were]

    I'd suggest a Lite-On DVD-Rom 165H (£27:99)

    gotta go...rather drunk !!
    bye

Yeah sorry. I went to meritline.com and saw the A05 retail version for $209 and the 106D for $217. After looking around more I found it to be around a $40-50 difference if you purchase the 105 OEM version.

thats not that the 106 is cheap, its just that the 105 you found is very expensive,
get alcohol 120% that way you dont need to copy on the fly for ps2
