My ipod started out showing the sadface icon, then the folder with an exclaimation point, now i have it hooked up to my computer and it sounds like its' trying to turn itself on, and something isn't clicking, so it starts up, clicks, then flops.. starts up, clicks, then flops.
I have no idea what's going on and i cannot restore it because a lot of songs that are on the ipod aren't on my itunes, and i know how to get songs from my ipod to my computer, but the computer isnt recognizing the ipod, so i cant do that.

    help?

My only solution would be to restore it... As simple as that. I know you have some music on there that you dont have on iTunes but hey, you can either restore it, or send another 300-400 dollars (USD) on a new one. Or, you might be able to send it to apple and they might be able to repair it, for a fee. However, if it is still under warenty, Apple will either send you a new one or fix the one that you allready have.
If restoring doest work, try using the HP USB Disk Storage Format Tool-I had a simular problem, with the folder icon and once I used the HP thing, all I had to do was restore it (my computer didnt reconize my iPod at all, the whole thing was erased)
Well, I hope these solutions work, and sorry I cant do anything about the music. Oh ya, have you tried restarting it by holding the Select butten and Menu butten at the same time?( this wont eraseyour ipod, itll just reboot it) Also, you may want to try to force your iPod into disk mode, by first ressetting it, and then when the apple icon appears, press the menu and play buttens at the same time.
Hope that works for ya!Good luck

yeah, i've tried all the combinations of menu and select and play, nothing happens.

THe thing won't reset... at the moment it's not connected to the comp. but it's still telling me to not disconnect.

It's still trying to turn itself on, but it's not working, and pressing the menu & select buttons is doing absolutely nothing now.

    crud.

What might the "USB Disk Storage Format Tool" be?

try to update your computer if you got internet or restore the ipod by going into the ipod updater.

the "USB Disk Storage Format Tool" is a tool that basically some how formats your iPod, but it's not like the ipod updater. This tool is for when you arnt able to update your iPod ie your ipod updater doesnt reconize your ipod. Once you've used this on your iPod, you will now be able to restore/update it by using the iPod updater. I only used this because my updater didnt reconize my iPod, and neihther did my computer, so I ran this and then, 10 minlater, my iPod updater was able to reconize it and I was able to restore it.

i just throw other people's ipods on the floor, anyway. it's my duty, as the anti-fanboy. :)

yellie, if it is still under warranty, back all your music up on your compie and send it off to be repaired/replaced, just for safety. next time this happens, dropping it might not fix it, then you're fecked.
