I have a modded xbox i bought from a guy about 2 weeks ago. And I have been downloading games to my harddrive. Sometimes while downloading or while playing games from the HDD the Xbox will automatically shut off. When I try turning it back on sometimes it won't, so I would wait a couple hours and try again and it would work again for a while. Then a couple days ago it happened again and I have not been able to turn it on since. What should I do? I looked around a couple sites and they said it is a easy process to put some sort of new power installation or something inside. Should I try to do it myself, or find someone to do it for me. Thank you

I would think that It is the psu or there is a loose wire somewhere. Either way take It back to the guy who sold it to you and get him to fix it.

or it might just be overheating. a large RPM hd will sometimes cause the box to overheat. or it might be the power cord. everytime i move my xbox i have to wiggle the powercord before i can get it working again.

Yeah sounds like an overheating issue. Depending on your dash, adjust your fan setting to the highest. Also you may have a faulty power cord. A while ago Microsoft issued a recall and replacement of power cords for certain time frame manufactured boxes.

Those power cords were exchanged because they had a high fire danger not because they had a problem if the xbox imploded on itself the power cord would light up and fry.

Do you get anything at all? I.e. an error message, or just nothing? If you get an error, it could be that the mod chip came loose (common if the mod chip uses a solderless connector, and/or if it got bumped around / moved recently).
