My problem is difficult to sum up in the title.

I have a xbox modded with a duox2 chip and xecuter2 bios. It is a version 1.5 . I have the slayers 2.7 dvd and used that to get all the necessary software on my xbox.

It works perfectly except the samsung dvd drive only boots stuff after I've put an original game in at least once after I start up the xbox.

I own a second xbox and have swapped the dvd drive with another samsung and I get the same issue even though both systems are almost new.

I have completely opened the drive and done a full cleaning including the laser.

I don't think it had anything to do with it but I recently used a 3rd party dvd kit from Draxter and there is a chance I started experiencing problems after that but since I typically play off the hdd, I didn't really take notice of the problem immediately.

Any help would be much appreciated as I am at my wits end. I have read all I could read on the xbox and have found nothing on this issue. I have visited just about every xbox forum and website that can be visited.

Have seen this myself a couple of times.. The ide controller needs a hard reset.. we do this by locking and unlocking the hdd a couple of times.
Simple quick and effective.. If after that there is no change then look at the ide cable and dvd drive itself with some suspicion.
