my ipod nano does not appear in my itunes so i can not update my nano please help me and when i do to safely remove hardware and try to stop it it says the generic volume can not be stopped write now and on my ipod screen it says do not disconnect

You are probably missing your iPod Software, because your computer should recognize your iPod as an iPod and not give you the 'Safely Remove Hardware' Just download an iPod updater from Apples website, and you should be back under way.
