I just purchased an R4 Revolution card for my DSi and with it I got a 4 GB SD Micro card. I have downloaded the software from the company's website, and I followed the directions on the site for putting the files (moonshl, _system_,_DS_MENU.DAT,_DS_MSHL.NDS) onto my SD micro card using the card reader that came with my R4. My PC sees the card fine, and I get the things on there fine, but when I put the SD card into the R4 (again following the instructions precisely), and then put the R4 into my DSi it only says I have nothing inserted in my game card slot. It will not see the cartridge. I have tried the entire process several times, formatting the SD card each time to get a fresh start. I even tried downloading and using a different version which has the same files I already got in the first rar file but also included the file _AX_MENU.DAT. But my DSi still does not see the cartridge. I read on a different website that if this happens maybe the cartridge can be opened and a folder piece of paper inserted under the under the contacts to help them touch the DS insides better, but that seems very scary and drastic. Can anyone help me? I am at my wits end. Thanks!
A lot of flash carts suffer from poor connection, to see if it is this, put the thin piece of card or folded paper behind the flashcart, pushing it towards the DSi contacts
I actually tried this first thing this morning and the paper trick didn't work. My DSi still won't see my R4. Is there something else I could be doing wrong, or somehting else I could try?
The R4 Revolution doesn't work with the new DSi. You need to purchase a card that is compatible with the new firmware that's on your DSi. There are several cards available that support the DSi. Most of them have an "i" at the end of the name, such as R4i.
I just now found this out from the company I purchased the card from and I ordered the R4ri REd but then I was justy now looking up on line where to download the stuff I will need to put on the cart when it comes but then I stumbled onto some info that has me worried that my DSi console will not work with any. When I did a search on Dogpile looking for the DSi firmware v1.4 (which the product info page where I bought it from said I needed in order for it to run), I came up with results telling me that if I upgrade my firmware it will not recognize any cart anymore. I am not sure what that means. I have updated my DSi recently, did that change something that will make it not be able to use an R4 cart at all?? And what is it that I need to download to put on the R4 if firmware is what is on the DSi itself. Oh, man, I am SO confused!! Can you help me sort this out? Thanks!
The DSi's firmware can be updated by Nintendo to add new features. While this is nice, the updates usually add features that block cards such as the R4i from working. The firmware updates are usually optional, but may be required to play certain games. If you purchase a card that can be updated as well, then you may just need to update the firmware on the card to allow it to work again. This will continue to be a game of cat-and-mouse, thus my opinion is to stick with the DS Lite and avoid the new DSi.
Hi my daughters ds lite has r4 revolution for DS (ndsl/nds) all was working fine but recently I hotice the newer nds homebrew/ downloaded games wont work on it.. the older games still work fine. What can I do Thanks
Uh oh. So, are you saying there is nothing at all I can do to make my just purchased R4i card work since I updated the DSi? Nothing at all? I will be so sad if this is the case. As it is I have already purchased the first R4 and the SD micro card, then realized the R4 was wrong so purchased the R4i card. All this and they can't even be used? Please, there just has to be something I can do. Do you know anything at all I can try to undo the update or to fix things so that I will be able to use the R4i cart when it arrives in the mail? Is there any kind of reset or something that will bring it back to the state it was in when it shipped?
Deb As far as I know, from reading gbatemp.net, R4i bootloader can not be updated but they are releasing newer version of R4i that does. Maybe your R4i RED will run on DSi v1.4 Unfortunately when Nintendo update the DSi firmware to v1.5, you will need to buy another R4i... I have a suggestion, Buy an Acekard 2i or Ezflash Vi or M3 zero, these cards bootloader can be updated.
I wanted to thank everyone who were so kind to help me. This was my first post here and I found the friendliness and help really top-notch. I did end up resetting my DSi to hopefully undo the update I got. At least, in the manual it said it would retunr it to the condition it had been when I purchased it. So now I am hoping (fingers crossed) that when the new card I bought arrives, I can get it to work. If I have more problems ir if updates lock out my use of the card I will sure consider a different brand as was suggested. Again, thanks to all for your great assistance!
