Ok, for a bit of background, i have recently upgraded almost all of my internal hardware (apart from my Samsung D drive, Microsoft USB dongled Wireless Mouse/Keyboard combo and 700w power supply). My new hardware consists of: Nvidia GTX 460 Graphics Card 8GB DDR3 Ram Intel Quad Core I7 930 Processor Asus p6x58d-e Motherboard Western Digital 1tb C drive (Running Windows 7 pro 64 bit). Ok, now in the few day's i've been running my new build (and getting used to Windows 7), ive been having far too many problems. Most of which have somehow migrated from my old built (even with almost all of my hardware replaced). My problems are: 1) On booting up for the first time of the day, it always freezes on the Motherboard logo, prompting a manual restart, to which is completes botting up. 2) On the "Welcome, come login" screen, the mouse moves, but my clicks on the icons dont seem to register (clicking will highlight, but not actually activate it. I have to hit enter for it to log in to my account. I had this problem from my old computer too, running the same mouse/keyboard combo) 3) Once i manage to log in, My Mouse freezes every few minutes for a few seconds. Sometimes it takes me frantically shaking the mouse around to get it to register again. Since my career is in editing/modelling/animation work, this is a massive inconvenience 4) After Effects CS5 and 3ds max 2011 crash on start up. After Effects worked like a dream the first time i installed it on my new system (installing the entire creative suit here), but i had to reinstall it and it produces a message: "After Effects has stopped working" after the splash screen. Countless reinstalls wont fix it now. With Max, i open it up and then it seems to crash like 50 seconds into using the program. Whether im doing something memory consuming or leaving it Idle. It produces just a standard autodesk crash message: "Encountered a problem, send error report". 5) In firefox and Msn, pop up dialog box's display white text on a white background. This may make no sense, so i've helped by producing a screenshot: http://www2.picturepush.com/photo/a/4077460/img/4077460.jpg. It may help the answer to this problem to inform you that i am running Windows Blinds 7, but i cant find any options to change this specific feature, unless im overlooking something This is the list of my problems and information. 1.) You could try flashing the latest bios; this sounds like a mainboard problem even if I didn't know that it had a Asus mainboard. 2-5.) Did you reinstall windows, or did you migrate? Migration to new hardware causes a lot of problems for windows vista & 7...best to reinstall. If you did not migrate, then I would guess it is either a mainboard issue or possibly a power supply issue.

I took out my hard drive which contained Xp (didnt bother formatting, since im going to put it back in with the old hardware for my room mate when i move out). But i put in a new western digital hard drive along with the new hardware, and i installed a fresh copy of windows 7 onto a fresh new hard drive. Would that be classed as migration or reinstallation or neither? Also, could you point me to any tutorials for flashing the bios, and how to get my hands on the latest drivers (ive looked on the asus board website but i couldnt find it, unless im just painfully bad at searching. Dont ask me to go tresure hunting).
I dont have time to read your OP right now but I will later. 2-5) When installing a used HDD in a new PC, always best to format or else the drivers for the new and old hardware can cause conflicts. Bios Flash - I think now a days all the mobo manufactures make a simple program that runs in windows that will get the job done. Super easy to do.
I'd reinstall windows fresh first. Massive hardware changes often don't work properly with old windows installs with all the drivers they have.
It sounds like he already reinstalled windows. Here is the bios file; click "download", select windows 7 64bit as the OS, then download the newer file under the "BIOS" section and download the utility from "BIOS-Utilities"...you will need to make a DOS startup disk or key to use the Asus tool. Well, thanks for all of your help, problems 1,4 and 5 are now fixed, all the remains are my mouse glitches which have decreased immensely but are still kinda annoying but ive read that this is a problem with Windows 7 containing a bug relating to usb arrays...or something. So i guess its unfixable for now.
I just read the OP again...I know why you are having mouse troubles...all I don't understand is why you are not having keyboard problems as well. Microsoft is not famous for great software...but their hardware makes their software seem perfect.
I know, im confused aswell. Moreso by the fact that the mouse and the keyboard share the same USB dongle. Its a headscratcher
Not all Microsoft hardware is bad. In many cases it's a lot better than stuff you pay twice as much for.
Really? In my experience, Microsoft hardware costs about the same as Logitech...the hardware that costs twice as much may be junk...but I wouldn't know; logitech is good enough for me.
I'd rate the MS Sidewinder keyboards over Logitech's stuff, much nicer engineering. Software is reasonable too. Logitech stuff is generally pretty good though, I don't really have any arguments from either. The MS Intellimouse Optical design is still one of the best mice ever made, especially now it's so cheap.
