OK i was gunna wipe all the sruff off my old pc but i tried to start it and it just wouldnt have it. i turn it on at the plugs and i hear a high pitch noise coming from the tower and then i turn it on and the fan spins about 1/8th of a turn and then the pc turns off but i can still hear the high pitch noise. i open her up and there are two plugs that are not plugged in. Also i cant get the pictures on for some reason thanks
If you have the files as jpegs, go to http://www.imageshack.us to post them, then take the 'direct link to image' link and post it here. The high pitched noise suggests there may be a fault with the PSU or motherboard though.
Those are two different connectors that can be used to power a CPU - they're rarely both used, typically one or the other, sometimes neither. If there's a slot for them to go in the motherboard it'll be obvious where it is. Neither of them may be needed though, depending on what motherboard you have. If you want to just wipe the hard disk clean you can plug it into your current PC (assuming it's a full size, not a laptop) and wipe it in your current windows install. If you do have a laptop you could get a cheap USB external hard disk box and do the same.
well, short of replacing the PSU there's probably not a lot you can do - noises like that don't occur unless a component is actually faulty.
