I'm telling you man, stick with the Core 2 Duo. That E5200 will overclock SO WELL on that board and CPU cooler. I can only give you advice performance wise. Price wise I have no idea because I live in the USA.

The Q6600 is fine, but stick with the motherboard I recommended first.

The mother board you recommand has PCI Express x8 interfaces
IS that half as good as PCI x16 interfaces?

It has one 16x lane, or if you want to use both then both are 8x.

The one you want is fine 16x and one 4x. The Asus will perform ever worse.

Yes it does make a difference. The performance will not be halved because no video card uses all 16x bandwidth. But yeah if you want to use 2 high end video card then you will probably lose 10% of the performance with the motherboard I recommended and lose about 25% of the performance with the motherboard you want.

Thanks alot abuzar1, I really appreciate the help and ill be ordering the components (including the parts recommaned by you) for my firt build soon.

Do you thinks it will be worth getting two of the Sapphire HD 4850 graphics cards you recommand to work in CrossFire mode?

Depends on if you can afford it. But yeah it should provide a healthy boost. Although for two cards a GA-X48-DS4 would suit you better. I don't know if you can afford it or not though. It is a bit more expensive.

I'm not sure about UK pricing, but for the money of two 4850s, see if you can get a 4850X2 or 4870X2 instead. The thing about the GA-X48-DS4 is that while it is better for dual graphics, the GA-EP45-DS3R is way better for overclocking. So a 4850X2 is like two 4850s in one card. So you can get the cheaper GA-EP45-DS3Rm still have the same video card performance as 2 4850s and overclock better than the more expensive GA-X48-DS4.

No it wont. One 4850 would be better than that.

Get the one with 4-4-4-12. It means lower latency, which is good.
