My pc doesn't seem to like backing up my dvd's anymore. Whenever i open them in dvd shrink to copy it always gets so far in the analysing process and then gives me an error saying the disc is dameged or dirty! Only problem is it seems to do this with every disc i throw at it! The weird thing is when i take the discs into work they copy fine on my machine there with no problems! Does anyone know why my pc has stopped wanting to copy them all of a sudden because it was working fine before. I've also tried ripping the vob files off with dvd decrpter and usually end up with it just going round in circles trying to copy one particular file from the disc. Any help would be brilliant as i'm sick of having to take my discs into work! Thanks again. ps my drive is a NEC DVD_RW ND-2500A
I mean don't get me wrong spotty girl, just in-case you ain't got no spots. I..?.. as a member of this bar?? am supposed to inTROduce.. an Angel thet flowed when thing, daint flow. into the sewers whur the bubble flow???
perhaps look for a firmware update on the nec website, i know at least for my nec 3520a, a new one just recently came out a few days ago. while i've never had a problem like yours, my guess is that either your nec needs a firmware flashing or your drive is getting into it's later years and will be on its way out soon. may i ask what kind of drive you are using at work? you might also try uninstalling the nec and reinstalling it again, sometimes over time your computer just needs a fresh start. hope that helps even in the slightest little bit, good luck.
@ gringle ok i have no idea what you are talking about, perhaps it's an inside joke with you and pumpanani? anyways, that was interesting.
kivory666; It must be hard, to play, when playing is a game? And damsells in distress .. became a playing game..
As you have had only one answer to your question, I would suggest a de-frag, disc clean up, adaware & spybot your PC. Clearing out the cookie folder can help too. Gringle, are you on a different planet to the rest of us, or what? LMAO!!! Pulsar
Have you just updated your computer recently? Sometimes an update can be a downgrade for another program.
I think Gringle's tripping today. Must be some pretty good stuff too. Anyway, pumpanini do you have another DVD drive you could try to rip the movie with? Are you ripping with Decrypter first or using Shrink to rip? Try other ripping methods and another drive if you have one.
Hi all and thanks for the responses. What the heck is that nutcase doing in here talking about by the way?! Anyway back to my original question... I haven't installed any major updates to my pc as far as i'm aware and i regularly defrag it and scan and delete spyware. Could it be something to do with the amount of ram i have or something? My machine at work has a gig and a half of ram whereas this one only has 384 mb. How would i go about uninstalling the drive and re-installing it? Thanks again all ps i have tried first ripping the files with decrpter to the hd and have also tried doing a straight shrink with dvd shrink. Neither way seems to work very successfully unfortunately That is unti li take my discs into work and as if by magic they work perfectly!
pumpanani, To uninstall, reinstall, go into device manager, dvd/cd-rom drives, double click your drive, on the bottom in the drop down menu choose uninstall, reboot, windows should say found new hardware and reinstall your drive, if not go back and choose install, reboot.
and if that doesn't work, if you have another drive available for use maybe try that, just to rule out the drive as being the problem. And 384MB RAM should be enough, I had that for quite a while and didn't have a problem burning movies.
Ok guys here's the update.... I did everything pular suggested and still no joy. I also uninstalled the drive and that didn't work. I also downloaded a nfirmware update from nec's site but i get an error once the firmware begins flashing so i can't install that! Any other suggestions? I know it's not the discs as i have copied them on my dads laptop and my pc at work! Thanks again
pumpanani I would also try uninstalling DVD Shrink, getting a fresh download and reinstalling it, just for kicks. Also, to make sure that it is not your burner, try downloading AnyDVD trial version, free for 21 days and then burn with Nero trial version. If it works then it was your previous software... if it doesn't, then time for a new burner.
if when you try to flash the firmware and it fails it is likely the drive has a problem . one other thing that could be tried but most likely wont fix the problem is a lens cleaner . if the lens is dirty it will have problems reading/burning . it may be time for a new drive , how many burns does it have on it ? just my 2 cents
check this out: http://club.cdfreaks.com/forumdisplay.php?f=86 These guys really know their stuff, they should be able to help you, especially with a whole forum dedicated to NEC firmware. Never give up on a drive. I thought mine was toast before when I hacked the firmware but I got it working again, thanks to a member here who convinced me to keep trying. So I tell you: KEEP TRYING!
