Hi. I have purchesed a new modem for my computer. I bought a Conextant 56k V.92 PCI modem. My PC runs on 400 mhz PII processor and windows 98 OS. However, my PC does not detect my modem at all with even plug & play. I cant even run installation disk because it tries to detect the modem but fails. What can I do to fix this? Thanks for all those who respond =)

Have you tried to go into your device manager, which is in control panel system, and seen if your drivers are there or not if you have incorrect dvrs installed right click then click properties then reinstall or update drivers see what happens.

hey, nope the modem driver does not show up in the device manager because there is no driver installed because the computer cannot detect the modem.

reseat the card as it happened to a customer of mine when he tried to install his card, he didn't seat it all the way in so wouldn't detect. reseated & motherboard saw it. try another slot & try it in another computer to see if it detects it or not as you might have a buggered modem even if new.

than your motherboard or your other cards don't like conexant modems. try lucent or intel modems. also check for bios update for motherboard. remove all cards except video to see if motherboard sees it & try another videocard.
