Hi, I have a Nokia 6010 that came locked to Cingular Wireless (prepaid) in the USA. I bought it on holiday, and, when I returned to the UK, I wanted to use it with my British SIM card. I found a free tool that gave me the unlock code, and it worked fine (gave the "unlock successful" message or something, with a big check mark). However, I soon encountered problems: When I entered my British Vodafone (contract) SIM card, there were no network "bars" showing. When I tried dialing something it gave a "No Service" message. I tried the same thing with a T-Mobile (prepaid) SIM, with the same results. What's going on? I thought that an unlocked phone could take any SIM! Is this a band issue, ie, the phone will only ever work on North American networks? Thanks in advance, WASSIM
Yes, it is a band/frequency issue. The 6010 from North America will only work with GSM 850/1900 MHz The 2 networks that you are trying in the phone are GSM 1800 MHz I don't think you have any GSM 1900 MHz networks there if I'm not mistaken.
