So I was checking my computer and wondering why it was running so slow. I asked a friend to check it out and he told me that the processor is running at only 795 Mhz as opposed to the 1.73 Ghz that it's supposed to be doing. This is half the speed!! That's insane. Please tell me how to fix. overclock it so it runs at full speed. Thanks.

Wow, 1.73Ghz?!? Man thats super slow! But if its a cheap Core 2 Duo, the processor will run at half its speed to save energy when you dont have a lot of apps or games open. My laptop has a C2D @ 2.16Ghz but its running at 997.6Mhz right now, because all i am doing is typing in firefox. If I were to open Adobe Photoshop, or Battlefield 2, then it would go to 2.16Ghz

Yeah, my computer is kinda old and is also a laptop running Intel Pentium M. I tried running Adobe CS2 and also a game, but the processor's speed doesn't go up. I need to know why its doing this and also don't need it to save me energy. My laptop doesn't exactly move too much. Anyway, please tell me how to make it faster. Thanks.

Make it faster? Well you can buy a new laptop, as Pentium M proccessors are very outdated, or you can try downloading different aps that scan for just and compact your registry etc...

Well a friend of mine told me of a program called CPU Z which he got for me, and that put my computer back to 1.73 for a short time, but not permanently. What can I do to make it a permanent thing? Any suggestions of software or something within my computer? Thanks.

I would think that this is a case for a Format C:, unless some normal computer maintenance fixes the problem.

Has speedstep not occurred to anyone?
Your CPU is 1.73Ghz, but since it's a laptop, when you're not doing something demanding with it, it'll slow down to save heat and batery life.
Your OS and CPU are probably fine.

I completely understand what you're saying but why can't it run at 1.7Ghz all the time? I don't carry my laptop anywhere, so its pretty much a very small desktop. By making it run optimized all the time, is it hurting my laptop? Won't it make everything open faster? Please tell me what to do.

All it'll do is make the battery life shorter, and make it get a bit hotter. You can turn it off, but there's no reason to do so, anything that needs it's full speed will cause it to speed up anyway.
