Hello....I am a newbie to all this.

I have been reading & learning a lot here.

My question has to do with quality scores through Nero on media. First do you check this score test AFTER the burn or BEFORE? The reason I ask is I bough a few different brands, but real small packs till I decide what to use. They all show scores of 100% after they have been burnt. I have read & seen screen shots of people geting 97 98%, but not 100%. Could I have , or be doing something wrong here?

I ask this qustion, because the person who answered my other question had screenshots of his burns, they were about 97-98%...this is how I learned to do it, so he was helpful. ( I think he had Ty & Ben Q media.)

    Even Prodisc & CMC-Mag shod 100%...wierd.

    Thanks, stormy

You should be scanning after you burn your movie....post some screenshots of your burns for others to see.

Things you will need to post a screenshot (all free)

Gadwin printscreen to capture the screenshot.
Upload image to either Imageshack or Photobucket.
Copy and paste the url here at AD between img tags.

You run the disc quality scan after the media is burned. Nero disc quality scan is not compatable with all makes of dvdrw drives (doesn't record PIF errors) and will give 100% scores which are decieving and inaccurate because the PIF values is what determines the quality score.

I believe HP's are one of the drive makes that isn't compatable with nero scan disc (doesn't record PIF values). Try scanning those discs with a lite-on or benq drive.

Post your scans and we can tell for sure.

    @stormnyte

Your HP drive doesn't support C2/PIF scan. In order to get the precise quality from your backups, you'll need both C1/PIE & C2/PIF.

Here is an example/scan (from the famous Taiyo Yuden) of mine from last year.

    Ok, thank you.

I have no idea what CI/PIE or C2PIF stand for?

Is this a good drive. I am still within my return period, should I look for something better?

    TIA,
    storm

Well im confused.I have three burners 1/pioneer 111D,2/benq 1650 and an lg GSA4167.All with current firmware.I can burn one disc (always ty) and test this disc with dvd info pro and nero with all three burners.Guess what!! I get six differant results!!.So i dont bother now.If it plays in my player, thatll do.

The reason you get different results when scanning and burning is because all of the drives you have are better at different things.

The Pioneer is a strong burner, but a very poor excuse for a scanner...QS scores on this drive will should be pretty low.

The BenQ is a good scanner and burner, you should see the highest QS scans on this drive.

The LG is a good all around drive, but a very good reader (ripper).

All of the differences in the qualities the drives hold are the reasons you are seeing such a broad range of results.

Wants some more fun things to do? In Nero CD-DVDSpeed do a few 'Transfer Rate' tests :)

I've seen results like this as of late...perhaps Pioneer is getting in on the scanning bandwagon. As suggested by MysticE, do some transfer tests, they will give you and indication on how easily your drive reads the backed up DVD for future ripping.
