I just got an Oculus Rift and when it comes to the part where I'm supposed to install my Xbox One controller, it fails. I researched it, and Microsoft support says the drivers come packed with Windows 10 so it should auto-install. The problem is I'm using Windows 7. I have not found any drivers online that will make my wireless adapter work. I've also tried using a USB cable to go direct, but the drivers I found online did not work either. The ones at Microsoft's support page provided by Major Nelson seemingly are dead links now, and the backup I found at Techspot (file name: xb1usb.11059.0.140526x64.msi) did not work either. It still gives me the "failed to install" Windows error when connecting. Someone please help as Oculus is somewhat useless without a controller for games!
You've answered your own question in your first paragraph & is the reason it will never work, your option is upgrade to 10 or buy a 360 controller
don't think you have to goto win 10. check this link. http://wccftech.com/xbox-controller-pc-drivers-download-courtesy-major-nelson/ https://www.google.ca/?gws_rd=ssl#q=xbox+one+controller+windows+7+driver
