i'm sure this has been asked before, but could someone explain (in layman's terms) what exactly SUB and IDX files are? I may be completely wrong, but what I think is that the SUB file contains bitmaps of the subtitles and the IDX contains the timing and text... so the subtitles can be played with the IDX only, but if you want them to appear exactly as they did on the source (in this case a DVD), you need BOTH... also, I am wondering if there is any application that can look at SUB/IDX files, and tell me which languages are included... Thanks in advance.

As far as looking at the IDX file, open it with Notepad, click Edit -> Find and type index:
It will find each instance of index: and in the line befor it will show the language of each subtitle stream.
