Wow, so I bought an R4 DS card off a seller on Amazon.com. When I got it in the mail it looked legit. I went to the R4 site to DL the latest firmware 1.17 because the CD it came with had 1.16 on it. Loaded up the card with the firmware, added a ROM to test it out, and started it up the DS. It just hung on the Loading... screen.

A little more troubleshooting revealed something fishy. The firmware that the CD came with had a file named _AX_MENU.DAT. Weird, I didn't recall seeing the R4 firmware with that. Some quick googling on that .DAT file revealed a ton of references to the N5 card.

So I went to the N5 site, downloaded the 1.17 firmware, loaded it up, and whaddya know... it works. I doubt the seller knows it's fake but this blows. (Also all the help files that came on the CD perfectly match the N5 downloaded ones.)

Other signs it's not an R4 other than the firmware. 1) Spring loaded microSD slot. I think R4 did away with this. 2) The T-Flash USB reader looks different than what comes with the R4 and looks exactly like the one that comes with the N5. 3) No card carrier like the real R4 has.

Anyway... hope you all don't get duped, too. Good luck!

the only flaw of buying stuff online is that , you can not chcek the item be4 u get it. so you hv to pay attention to finding a reliable site.
Here i recommand you to choose www.gamekool.com. i got my R4 here.

and they hv other NDSL accessories also,
