Hi all I have not been on here for a month or so and wow what have i missed lol, i am in the uk with a starview so not really affected yet. Had a little flick through some of the posts to see what is happening with nag 3 etc. One thing i dont get is that when it happens in england, will we be getting new cards from virgin? ie will this be our warning that its gone to nag 3 or can they do that without issuing new cards to anyone? Thanks all, oh and thanks for all the great help over the past 2 years with my starview Chris
i think new cards have to issued when new encription is going to be implemented, might be wrong though.
new cards are being sent out to those who have the older boxes...if you have the newer samsung or thomsun boxes, they will not need changing since they are nag3 compatible..
Thread title renamed from "Just a quick question", which is as bad as "Please Help". In future please see here about thread titles ~ http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/440385
All the real ntl boxes are Nagra 3 compatible, it's the card that does all the hard work. Some newer boxes came with N2 cards, either ntl will stick with N2 - which I highly doubt - or swap these cards out with N3 cards soon. Also, it's not a question of "when" Virgin move to N3, it's more of an "if". Virgin and UPC are completely different companies, with UPC having more capital to invest in encryption. Virgin have been talking about moving to an IPTV system within the next few years.
VM's latest as of yet unreleased STBs are indeed more aligned to IPTV as you have said. Nagra 3 doesn't look like the future for VM and has not done so for quite a while.
