Can anyone help, Ive flashed my drive to try to make it write to maxell dvd- discs (some makes it would write to others it wouldnt, it is a dual format drive), and now it doesnt work as well. It will no longer write to dvd+ discs and when it does burn either movie files or backup dvds it wont play properly in a standalone player. The audio is 'underwater' sounding. It will play fine tho in the pc thro windows media..Can I reset the drive to its original state? I have recenly found an nec firmware flash but the software says the drive is not recognised...Have I destroyed it?
There are always dangers in flashing a drive, even with the official firmware. Crosflashing increases the risk. Go to the NEC site and look for your drive model. See if you can download official NEC firmware and a flasher application. PS I learned everything I know about flashing from www.cdfreaks.com
Did you try the firmware from maddog... i have that same drive and nec firmware doesnt work on it but the maddog firmware will.
BTW i had to ditch the drive because it will not read/write to new memorex 16x media..... you can pick up a 3510 or whatever the 16x nec drive for like 30.00 from tiger direct oem box.
