Hi guys I hope someone can help me I recently bought the nec3520a from tigerdirect so there is no instruction manual I think i accidently flashed a hacked firmware I am having problems burning any programs using record now max and prassi dvd it wont recognize that my burner is there the firmware i used was called mad_dog16x i was wondering if someone can tell me how to flash back to the original firmware and then i can flash the nec 3.04 firmware if there is a site for me to go to or if someone could tell me how to get rid of the hacked firmware thanks Mike
@mikeerwin welcome to ad it sounds to me like you definately got a hold of a hacked firmware don't be beguiled by faster burn times this (tied w/ bad media)is one of the most common problems experienced by new members burning to fast especially when the drive just was not built to burn that fast now that the lecture is out of the way baad mikeerwin lol how did you go about flashing your firmware did you use a flashing tool . I will do a search for most recent firmware for your drive but did you make a back-up for your original firmware hold for link btw what is the brand name on your drive it looks as if several ppl have tried this update "maddog" on oem versions of your drive w/out success
LOL yes bad mikeerwin i know yes i used a flashware i went looking for a new firmware to upgrade media and to burn a little faster i use alot of 8x media i had the old nec 1300a never upgraded firmware on that one but decided to upgrade firmware to burn at 8x and work with more media so i upgraded to nec 3520a i also didnt make a back up of original firmware. didnt know you were suppose to Thanks for your help. the name of my drive now is called mad dog md 16x dvd instead of nec 3520
I'm back this is the link I found for your firmware looks as though you have two options the original 3.04 or newer 3.05 the maddog was for the oem version (rebadged)of your drive any way's here is the link http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?download_id=2005 also here is a link for a flasher for your drive just scroll down and select your drive http://tdb.rpc1.org/ you should also find adequate instruction linked to this page should you run into any trouble good luck let me know how goes it
YEAHHHHHHHHHHH lol well i downloaded a program called NECbinflash and downloaded the original nec3520a bin firmware and it flashed it then i downloaded the nec 3520a 3.05 firmware.exe and it all went well thanks again l8nights for your help
Does anyone know what the NEC 3.05 firmware provides over the 3.04 (which is about 90 days old)? I flashed to 3.04 in May and everything is going well. The diference in 3.05 would have to be compelling to "fix something that aint broken".
@StanH1000 you should always update firmware when it's available. (well always wait a little while so any potential bugs affect other ppl and not you). You should apply this thinking to program updates too. Otherwise you put it off for so long that you end up with problems anyway. I apply the same principles at work in Unix support, with firmware and with Software patching. Just my opinions but i think it's sensible - what i don't recommend is upgrading to the very latest stuff straight away, just hang back awhile. in answer to the differences in the latest version of firmware. i couldn't find anything yet, have you checked NEC's site, that's the one place i haven't looked. i looked here - http://www.micheldeboer.nl/firmware/3520.html
@mikeerwin congrats everything goes well i hope good luck and don't forget to help others spread the knowledge @StanH1000 mikeerwinmight be the only one here who has the knowledge but if I had to guess it would be 16x write speeds as this is quite new??
Ty l8nights as far as do i know the difference no im sorry i dont i originally had 1.04 on mine then i used a hacked version of maddog and it interfered with some of my burning programs so i just went ahead and flashed it with the 3.05 i do notice a big difference from 1.04 to 3.05 but i wouldnt know about 3.04 sorry
