I am using NEC 6650A DVD burner on DEL inspiron 640M, I recently loaded XP after formatting Vista. Now it cannot read most of the DVD's, but stil reads some of them.problem not related to media or OS as the same DVD runs pretty fine in other DVD drives and with the same OS, on this same machine i have ubuntu(linux) loaded but same problem.

I tried changing multiple Firmwares but still problem persists..
it gives an message of "Disk is not formatted" window cannot read from this disk. The disk might be corrupted, or it ccould be using a format that is not compatible with windows

and when Enable CD recording on this drive is enabled, it shows DVD as a blank DVD..

    Kindly advise...

Check your device manager and see if you loaded all drivers. It could be you need motherboard ide controller ( If it has a problem; It will show a yellow exclamation mark.).
Make sure your drive has dma enabled.

    Burn On,
    Russell
