Right i have a _NEC DVD+RW ND-2100AD Dvd burner. im lookin for some way of making it write on blank dvd-r's. i dont want to use dvd+r's cause apperently they are not very compatable for what i need them for. so maybe i need firmware or to "flash it" (i have no idea what that means so tell me if your gonna reply tnks) so anyone with any info pls reply thanks!!!
the firmware is basically the brain of the drive. do a firmware update at the website of your drive or go here. http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_search.php
That burner is a DVD+R only burner. NEC is Dell's OEM for DVD burners and they only made +R burners. No firmware upgrade is likely to change that, at least not reliably. http://www.videohelp.com/dvdwriters...om=&bdrom=&orderby=Name&hits=25&Search=Search I suggest buying a modern burner if you want to burn -Rs. Unfortunately, the burner you have doesn't even bitset the +Rs it generates so the potential for compatibility problems with this discs you burn is high. It's possible to use a hacked firmware from RPC1.org (see http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?download_id=1793) The Benq 1650 is your best bet if buying a new drive.
